New Up-coming SFF Television Shows (2007-07-02)The Sci-Fi Channel in North America, in addition to resurrecting sf icon Flash Gordon in a new series, will be airing a new television series based on Neal Stephenson's Hugo-winning sf novel, The Diamond Age. The Diamond Age is about a future time on Earth when a nanoengineer is asked to create an illegal interactive learning primer device for a wealthy man's daughter, but the device falls into the wrong hands and the results may reshape the world. The Sci-Fi Channel is also producing "Witch School," a fictional docu-soap series about a school for witches.
"Life on Mars," the hit BBC show, will be adapted for U.S. viewing by ABC, produced by Twentieth Century Fox. The show is about a present-day Manchester cop who wakes up in the 1970's, when police work was just a little bit different. The show had two seasons in Britain, but there are no plans for a third season, as British shows traditionally do shorter runs than in the U.S. Previous attempts to adapt British sff shows for U.S. television have not been successful.
