Dracula's Castle on the Auction Block (2007-06-29)The Archduke Dominic Habsburg, who currently lives in the U.S., has retained a private investment firm to handle the sale of the famous Bran Castle and its accompanying lands and outbuildings in the Transylvania region of Romania. Bran Castle, a fortress built in 1377 and given to the Romanian royal family in 1920, was used by author Bram Stoker as the setting for Dracula's castle in his infamous 1897 horror novel. Most recently, the Romanian government has been operating the castle as a popular museum and tourist attraction and has two more years to go on their lease. After that, the property will be sold. However, the Archduke is particular about the buyer and will not sell the castle for it to be turned into a Vampire Land-style amusement park, as had earlier been proposed. The sale is expected to be somewhere in the nine figure Euros, so all eccentric billionaires, get out your checkbooks.
