this is science fiction, not fantasy.

it is based on the nebula award winning novella by barry longyear, about a human and an alien who are marooned on a deserted and inhospitable planet in the course of a space battle. they must cooperate to survive and their relationship grows aver the years from hatred and suspicion to friendship and respect.

having read the book i was disappointed in the movie. did they have to add rains of fire and interstellar slavers to attract an adolescent audience? did the human have to be so shallow and gung ho? at best i could only rate this at 2 out of 5: but the novella is excellent - i recommend it.
