A nice, dark, well-done hard SF movie. The movie has some nice and disturbing visuals and pretty good effects. The performances and pacing of the story make it stand out though. Kiefer Sutherland is downright creepy, menacing one second then pathetic and mewling the next. William Hurt is a driven and determined investigator, yet still methodical in his pursuit. The couple of twists come and leave you wondering why you didn't see them coming, they're perfectly logical and move things along nicely. The villains are downright creepy, though a tad derivative of that Hellraiser guy (Pinhead?) in appearance. The story poses a few questions about the nature of reality and leaves you with the message of not taking things for granted. A very well-executed bit of classic SF.
