Submitted by James Richard Armstrong II (Mar 10, 2005)This film was, for it's time, one of the best action/sci-fi that I had ever seen to that point of my life and definitely the biggest impact. I loved it then, when I was 8 years old, and still love it to this day.
The technical effects are now dated somewhat but for the time, this film was absolutely top notch in that aspect. The acting was somewhat rough, but the story got them through that. Harrison Ford (Han Solo) did a very good job keeping it together I thought, along with a veteran thespian Sir Alec Guinness (Obi Wan Kenobee), the cast was strong and steady.
David Prowse/James Earl Jones (Darth Vader) did a masterful job at keeping the audience on edge with the "darkside" mantra wailing throughout the film.
The story was the stereotypical "princess needs saving" and the hero coming in to "swoop her off her feet" but had enough back story (as we would soon find out with all of the books) to keep the film flowing.
I love this film, did then, and do now...
