World Fantasy Redux

I posted about my experience at this year's World Fantasy Con in the forums, but thought I'd take a few moments to reflect on what the con meant to me after a few days of reflection.
Confidence.
That's the main thing I took away from it. I mean, part of you (usually) feels that your product is worthy to be "out there," but another voice is always whispering in my ear. "Hey, there's (insert name of world-famous author)! How are you are ever going to measure up? You might as well stop now before you embarrass yourself."
I think it's that negative voice that keeps so many writers-in-seclusion from taking the leap. I didn't have that problem when I was younger. Now, that leap of faith can be harder to accomplish.
But WFC was a shot in the arm. I mean, sure, I was a little breathless when meeting some authors, but when you talk to them and find out that they are just people, it takes the pressure off. They've made it. So can I.
