A Butterfly

This is the story of the journey o a colourful butterfly trying to find a reason for his existence.

This particular butterfly was as brightly coloured as a Dutch tulip farm in springtime. Unfortunately the butterfly was extremely lonely, he lived in a pitch black, dismal cave and the view outside was bleak and dull. He rarely left the cave as he felt secure and didn't see the point of risking flying out into whatever might be out there.

As time went on the butterfly grew sadder and sadder. He desperately needed t find a friend. He ached for a sense of belonging somewhere with someone, he started to want to explore outside too, just to see what the world was really like outside of the dark, dismal cave. And with that in mind he took a deep breath and zoomed straight out of his safe damp refuge and into the marvellous wonders of the world.

The world that he saw when he left the cave overwhelmed him. He loved it, the green grass the warm sunshine, spending hours disappearing amongst the tulip farms the world was wonderful but he was still lonely, he had no sense of belonging, he had no friends. Although he loved his new freedom. The butterfly once again took a deep breath and zoomed off once again, leaving the warmth of the countryside far behind.

He flew high up into the sky and let the winds blow him across the oceans and foreign lands. Tossing his helpless and weak body through all weathers until one day he found a strange creature. He noticed spots on the creatures back, he had spots too, and he thought that he might belong to this species. It was a giraffe. When he talked to the giraffe she reassured him he could not be honestly be one of them. As he had no long graceful neck reaching into the trees.

The butterfly spoke to many creatures, rhinos with a horn like his antennae, pigs with pink skin just like his, and many more but they all assured him he was not one of them. But then he came across an albatross, he spoke in a very squeaky intimidated voice,

"Excuse me I'm a butterfly just like you, and I was wondering, would you like to be my friend?"

"A butterfly! Don't make me laugh, I am no butterfly! I am a strong powerful albatross," he boasted in a deep voice. "I am insulted you even think of me a great South American albatross to be related to a mothy thing like you!"

And with that the albatross flapped his large feathery wings in disgust making the butterfly roll fall to the field floor with a thud so tiny you wouldn't hear it unless you held a microphone very close, the weak butterfly's body was broken, he didn't know it at the time but he was dying.

When he opened his eyes he spotted above his head a huge cloud of butterflies. They made a breath taking sight. He now knew that that was where he was suppose to be, flying up to heaven. With one last burst of hopeful power he leapt high into the orange sky. He lost himself in the crowd of millions of butterflies deep into the twilight sky, and from that moment on he knew he would never be alone again.
