The Ultimate Magic by Mike Walden
(5 ratings)
| Mist rose softly around the two cloaks, billowing in the silent but powerful wind. Two mages watched eachother, sizing their opponent, readying themselves to strike. Suddenly, the first young spellcaster threw his hands into the air and howled a word that was lost on a roll of thunder. Blue flames streaked across the gap between the two and plumetted into its target. Anti magic cracked and sizzled as the the dark mage walked unscathed from the flames.
"You can't defeat me," said the first mage, "I am all that is and I will break you, as I have broken hundreds before you."
Fear caught the white mage's throat, he found himself unable to speak, so instead focused his mind and threw his most powerful spell he could without having to use his mouth. All sound was lost in a brilliant flash of white. Hydras of all colors could be seen writhing and hissing in the slowly fading light. The dark mage laughed a horrible laugh, and snapped his fingers once, twice, three times. And the beasts were gone.
Finally, the dark mage began to cast his first death spell, speaking in the twisted tongue of evil magic. His hands rose and fell in complicated gestures and a red glow came to being just behind him. He threw his hands forward and bellowed a strange word, sending the red glow tearing through the fabric of time itself, and reappearing just in time to slam against the white mages chest.
