Prologue

He was surrounded by a profound silence. The silence was so complete that he was not even accosted by phantom sounds, which the mind was wont to make when no input was detected. He was not afraid though. Nothing upset him in his solitude and he found great joy in this. The feeling was like having a thick, smothering, black slime removed from his body letting warmth and strength return to limbs that had forgotten anything clean. He just savored the feeling.
Drifting blissfully he lost all sense of time. Centuries passed or only a few seconds. Without realizing it, he became aware of a soft hissing sound that rose and fell in volume. As he concentrated on the sound, a muted gurgling noise added its voice to the rhythmic hissing building an image in his mind of a beautiful mountain stream winding through a sunlight copse. The sounds rang with vitality previously unknown to him. He drank in this life not daring to open his eyes. He then laughed at himself because he knew there was no reason to fear betrayal from his senses since they told him the truth of what his heart already knew.
Opening his eyes to joy, he looked into a clear blue sky radiant with the warm rays of an undying light. Lush trees swayed gently in a refreshing breeze at the edge of his vision. They glowed with a life beyond mere mortality sustained by the loving rays of light that shone eternally upon their uplifted leaves. Rising to his elbows, the man looked left toward the bubbling babble of the stream that flowed through the trees. Smiling he shivered as the joy cascaded through his body looking for release. He let out an exhilarated whoop that caused the trees to ring like a thousand tiny chimes. Love pored from everything swelling inside of him until it came out and was absorbed back with just a touch of flavor added by his feelings. The whole scene shone just a bit brighter. A polite cough interrupted his reverie. Turning to his right he looked upon an older man with flowing white beard and hair dressed in a plain white robe that rippled slightly in the soft breeze.
"Welcome" said the white haired man.
"Thank you" replied the new arrival. "Are you who I think you are?"
"Who do you think I am?" the old man asked.
"Abraham."
"Then you would be correct." He smiled as he made the statement. "Might I know your name as well?"
"Miles Anderson" the younger man replied.
"I am honored to meet you Miles Anderson. The cares of your past life no longer weigh upon you. May I ask what you did in life?"
"I designed and built robots for public service such as butlers, babysitters, and gardeners."
"Robots?" replied Abraham.
"Forgive me father" Miles said, giving a frown for the first time since his arrival. "A robot is a mechanical apparatus used to perform a task. The robots I created were of such a design that they could mimic a man's basic look and behavior. I was even able to give them intelligence almost equal to a man's."
"You mean that you created a living being from non-living materials?" Abraham said with a hint of concern.
"Oh, no, no" replied Miles! "I only gave a mix of non-living materials the resemblance of life.
