‘He had no idea what he was doing. Only the poison in his mind was working him. If Exor became a Wardron and saved the lives of humans, it could possibly be the catalyst of bringing the two species together.'
Exor was silent, just hearing the brothers argue about what would happen if he entered the Sanctuary was painful. Then he realised that Tarrant was talking some sense, but he did not think that the Wardrons of the Sanctuary would accept an exiled high-born Gerox Lord to become a Wardron.
‘Save your breath, both of you,' Exor said. Being quite a wise person, they accepted his command. ‘Tarrant, they won't accept me. You know that they hate the Gerox. Some of their duties are pushing the Gerox back into the Mountains of the Dead or the Zorlix Ranges. Imagine if I went there. They would all think that I am a spy of some sort, now that I am banished and all.'
‘Not if I talk to them,' Tarrant shook his head in disagreement. ‘I am the Wardron of Thunder and they all respect me. If I told them about the peace we're trying to build would be nearly finished if you were accepted as a Wardron, then they would accept you.'
‘I'm... not sure,' Exor hesitated. He was thinking what would happen. Learning the arts of the Wardrons would be an exceptional gift to him. ‘We could try it.' Exor looked at Tarrant with a new determination on his face. Tarrant smiled with ease. ‘Yes, I will be a Wardron.'
However, his impetuous actions were not to everyone's liking. Exor's statement that none would respect him was all too true. He had learnt all the seven powers, but most of the other Wardrons, including the masters, thought of him as a rebel, a traitor who might use these powers against them. It was this continuous pressure on Exor that had led him to his dark path. He resolved to be different from the other Wardrons and he wanted to be higher than them. He started taking an interest in the Dark Limits. He studied it quite carefully, for it was really risky business learning such dreadful powers. After five years of learning all he had to learn about the Colour Limits and the Dark Limits, he had forsaken the Sanctuary for one reason. His will to take revenge on all who had accosted him from his clan had grown strong. It was probably due to the effects of the Dark Limits, for it was hard to completely control. It surged negative emotions into the bearer and used these emotions to control the bearer.
One of the Masters of the Wardron Order had discovered what Exor had been up to, and seeing as most students despised him, he made sure that Exor was expelled from the Order. Tarrant discovered what happened only a few weeks after, as he was spying in Zorlix. When he returned, he asked everyone where Exor had gone. No one even bothered to ask the Gerox and so Tarrant placed himself with the burden to bring Exor back to the Order. Exor was travelling back to his clan, hoping against hope that they would let him return. It was just before crossing the Aldarin that Tarrant had caught up to him. The Wardron had sensed the Dark Limits in Exor and tried to subdue him and make Exor overpower those feelings.
