Yet he was not fast enough as she touched the stone for a moment, chanting a sentence. Loki saw his price vaporize in front of his astonished eyes.

As he stared at the large ruby, hanging on a golden chain he saw the image of a swan reappear inside of the stone.
With a laugh he threw the necklace from him for this was naught but a game to him.
For was he not a God to manipulate humans as he wished?!
This time his fellow Gods won this round, a next time he would get his price, for that he was sure.

Some time later, perhaps days later a father sought out his daughter, for she had to help her mother with chores around the house.
They lived in the northern lands, filled with fairies and other mystical beings.
Myths and legends were often told late at night by visiting bards.
And so he found Burhwynne bend on a knee holding something in her hands.
Looking up as he heard his voice calling up, she called out to him, revealing him her finding.
"Look at the swan inside the stone, father...how did it get there": she continued on in her enthusiastic voice.

Burhwynne was 15 and soon visited upon by womanhood, jewelry and such suddenly had become important to her.

The grizzled face of the man glanced back at his daughter in thought, his reply was long in waiting. After a while he shrugged; "who will know the truth Burhwynne". His own voice sounded unnaturally load in his ears.
The mists blanketed the pool in a gloomy light.
